Meet Krishna, mother of two, as she shares her mother’s passed-down remedy for a colicky baby and a dehydrated mother.
Bringing our first baby home was both exhilarating and frankly, overwhelming.
We had a tough time making him feel at ease. His tiny, adorable toes would curl in discomfort, and his cries echoed his struggle with an upset stomach, making sleep elusive for both of us. Despite trying everything from dietary changes to playing soothing music, to gentle car rides, nothing seemed to ease his distress. I felt a mix of guilt and helplessness. I was desperate to comfort him, yet unsure how, and felt a tinge of failure as a new mother.
That's when my own mother suggested a simple remedy: a comforting and cooling dill tea. Skeptical, yet willing to try anything, I brewed my first cup. To my surprise, it was a game-changer. Not only did it soothe and hydrate me, but it also seemed to work wonders for my baby, calming his restlessness. It became a daily ritual, a lifeline that brought us both comfort during those exhausting early days of parenthood.
Sharing this remedy with my mother/toddler group became a way to connect and support other mums navigating similar challenges.
It taught me that in the vulnerability of early motherhood, there's immense power in sharing our experiences, creating a community of compassion and hope!
